South Shore Area Branch STEM Projects, continued
2021 STEM Conference continued
Sarah Looney, a Weymouth High School senior, helped to organize the Conference. Sarah was a past participant at our STEM Conference and she was a member of the Weymouth Envision the Future team of girls that attended a week-long STEM Conference in 2015. At this year’s Conference we had 61 girls. The Conference began with a Keynote Speaker, Pat Monteith, a NASA Ambassador, and a member of the Brockton Library STEM team. Pat shared information about her background and information about women in history that have been involved with STEM. She encouraged the girls to try new things, to find their passion and pursue it, and to get involved in STEM. She then answered questions. Each girl attended three one-hour workshops. We had 18 different workshops offered throughout the Conference. The workshops were presented by Weymouth educators, Weymouth High School students as part of their Senior Capstone project and women working in STEM careers. A good time was had by all that attended and presented at the Conference.
Some of the topics covered included: Computer Coding, Robotics, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Biotech, Engineering, Environmental Science and Healthcare.
