AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy,and research. AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. The South Shore Area branch of AAUW is the South Shore’s leading advocate for education and equity for all women and girls. We seek and welcome new members from Quincy to Plymouth holding an associate or equivalent or baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited institution.
The South Shore Area branch of meets monthly from September through May usually on the evening of the second Tuesday of the month at various locations convenient to the wide area covered by our membership. Our programs relate to AAUW’s mission to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.
We engage in fundraising for AAUW Funds which supports programs such as the Educational Opportunities Fund, the world’s largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women and the Legal Advocacy Fund, which supports the protection of the legal rights of those who are facing discrimination.
For many years our branch funded the Pamela J. Lincoln Recognition Award presented to an female applicant continuing higher education. The 2013 award winner pursued an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (RN program) at Massasoit Community College. In 2014 the branch sent two Bridgewater State University students to the National Conference of College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL). In 2018, in partnership with Curry College, the branch sent two Curry College students, Paulina Adams and Tiana Delano, to NCCWSL. In 2019 two more Curry students were sponsored to attend NCCWSL. Our branch sent Sarah Simmons. Our 2021 recipient was McKenzie Rider.
